The process
Photos with every estimate. Here's exactly how that works.
Most people can't verify what a mechanic tells them, and that's the whole reason this industry has a trust problem. So we built our process around showing you instead of telling you.
-
The write-up
10 minutesYou describe the problem however it comes out. A service advisor writes down your exact words, not a translation of them — 'grinding on left turns, worse when cold' is a better work order than 'check brakes.' We take your mileage, ask when you last had it in anywhere, and give you a realistic same-day or next-day window.
-
The inspection
45–90 minutesYour car goes on the lift for a 27-point look, whether you came in for a check-engine light or an oil change. Brake pads get measured in millimeters. Tire tread gets a depth gauge, not a thumb. Fluids get condition-rated. Every single finding gets photographed with something for scale in the frame.
27 points, every visit -
The estimate — with photos
Same dayYou get a text or an email with a line-item estimate, and every line has a photo you can tap. Worn part, measurement, and the price for parts and labor separately. Nothing is bundled into a mystery 'shop service' line, and there is no diagnostic charge hiding inside a repair price.
Here's the actual fault -
Safety / Soon / Someday
Your callEvery item is sorted into three buckets so you can spend where it matters. Safety means don't drive it. Soon means the next month or two. Someday means we're logging it so you're not surprised in a year. Most people approve half the list, and that's completely fine with us.
-
The repair
Quoted up frontWe only touch what you approved. If we open something up and the real cost is going to run over the estimate, we stop and call you before the number moves — that's a rule, not a courtesy. Quality parts, and we'll tell you honestly when the cheaper aftermarket option is genuinely fine.
Only what you approved -
The hand-back
5 minutesWe road test everything — including the Cordon Road hill, because a brake job that feels great in the parking lot isn't a brake job. You get the old parts back if you want them, a printed copy of the inspection with photos, and a realistic date for the next thing on your list.
The warranty
Two years, twenty-four thousand miles, no asterisks.
The industry standard is 12 months / 12,000 miles. We doubled it, because if we're confident enough to charge you for the work we should be confident enough to stand behind it twice as long.
- 24 months / 24,000 miles
- Parts and labor on virtually everything we install, whichever comes first. No pro-rating and no deductible.
- Honored nationwide
- We're part of a national repair network, so if something we fixed fails in Boise or Bakersfield, a partner shop covers it. Call us first and we'll set it up.
- Diagnostic fee credited
- The $110 diagnostic goes back on your bill if you have us do the repair. If we can't find it, you don't pay for the guess.
- Comeback policy
- If the same symptom returns within 30 days, it's a comeback — we re-diagnose free, and if we got it wrong, we make it right on our dime.
Quick reference
Maintenance intervals, in plain English.
Tape this to your fridge. These are honest ranges for most cars on Salem roads — your owner's manual wins if it disagrees, and we'll always tell you which end of the range your car is really on.
| Service | Interval | What we'd add |
|---|---|---|
| Full synthetic oil & filter | 5,000 – 7,500 mi | Whichever your manual says; we won't shorten it to see you sooner |
| Tire rotation | 5,000 – 7,500 mi | Free with any oil service here |
| Brake fluid | Every 3 years | Moisture-tested at every visit — we go by the strip, not the calendar |
| Engine air filter | 15,000 – 30,000 mi | Salem's pollen and harvest dust push this to the low end |
| Cabin air filter | 15,000 – 20,000 mi | If your defroster got weak, this is usually why |
| Coolant | 60,000 – 100,000 mi | Long-life coolants vary a lot by manufacturer — we check the spec |
| Transmission fluid | 60,000 – 100,000 mi | 'Lifetime fluid' is a marketing term, not an engineering one |
| Spark plugs | 60,000 – 100,000 mi | Iridium plugs go the distance; copper does not |
| Serpentine belt | 60,000 – 90,000 mi | We inspect at every oil change and photograph the cracking |
| Timing belt (if equipped) | 90,000 – 105,000 mi | On an interference engine this is not optional. Ask us if yours is one |
| Four-wheel alignment | Yearly, or after impact | Or any time you replace tires or suspension parts |
Scroll the table sideways on a phone. Or just call us at (503) 555-0174 and we'll read you yours.
Straight answers
The questions people are too polite to ask.
-
Do I have to approve everything on the list?
No, and most people don't. Approve the Safety items, think about the Soon items, ignore the Someday items. We'd rather you come back in three months than feel cornered today.
-
Can I bring my own parts?
Yes, with one honest caveat: we can't warranty a part we didn't source. Labor is still covered, the part isn't. We'll install it and tell you plainly if we think it's the wrong choice.
-
What if the repair costs more than the estimate?
We stop and call you. The number on your approved estimate is the number, and it doesn't move without a second yes from you. If we underestimated the labor, that's our miss to eat, not yours.
-
Do you work on older cars?
Happily. We've got techs here who learned on carburetors and techs who live in a scan tool, and between them we cover most of what rolls down Fairgrounds Road. Very rare or exotic, we'll tell you up front.
-
How long will my car be here?
Oil and tires are usually same-day. Diagnostics we like to keep overnight so we can cold-start it in the morning — a lot of faults only show up on the first start of the day. Bigger jobs depend on parts, and we'll give you a real date, not an optimistic one.
Come see the photos for yourself.
Book an inspection and you'll have the whole report — pictures, measurements, and a sorted list — on your phone before you decide anything.
